(Wednesday, December 28)
I am the door; if any one enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (Jn 10: 9-10)
What does Jesus mean by “go in and out”? In (to) and out (of) what? He means life. Our entire life’s journey is a series of entrances and exits. There are the “big” ones, like birth, death, baptism and marriage, and there are the daily “small” ones, like entering the day when I wake up, or getting into the car to go to work, or going to bed in order to leave this day and enter a new one. We accompany all these exits and entrances, the small and the big, with prayer, so that we may truly “have life,” and “have it abundantly.” That is to say, so that we are not obliviously alone, like zombies or like “the walking dead,” but with and in the Source of all life, our life-giving Lord.
So let me not be oblivious to my Creator today, like a zombie, but re-connect with Him so that I can “be saved,” or “made whole” again with Him and all creation. Let me let His creative energies into my exits and entrances, so that I may “have life, and have it abundantly.”
